Q & A with Hailey Tash

Hailey Tash
is a Bangor area-based wedding and fashion photographer, but she'll gladly travel as far as you want to take her. A relative newcomer to the industry, her talent shines through every photo she takes.

How did you get started in photography?

I grew up on a lake in the middle of nowhere so, naturally, I needed to find something to pass the time and capture the nature around me. My father bought me a camera when I was 10 years old to get me started.

What do you love about wedding photography?
I love the candid reactions. Every wedding is uniques and you never get the same reaction shot twice.

What is the biggest challenge you face when shooting a wedding?
Packing my camera bag. I check it 15 to 20 times before I leave the house. I'm super paranoid about forgetting things!

What should clients know about your style of photography?
I avoid posing as much as possible. Of course I'll pose the bride and groom, wedding party, and family for photos, but I try to capture you looking natural and like you're simply enjoying each other. You'll often hear me say, "Pretend I'm not here!"

When you're not behind the camera, what do you like to do?
I love to read and write. I have three novels in the works. Someday I'll finish one.

How can the couple help YOU on their wedding day?
Give me as many details as you can and want to. If you think it's too much, I promise it's not. I had a bride emailing me photos of her dress and telling me every detail as she planned her weddng throughout the months leading up to her wedding. By the time the day arrived, I felt like a guest.

How has your photography changed over the years?
I have gone back to a more natural style. I went through a phase where I edited everything in vintage tones and it just wasn't me. I work hard to get things as perfect in-camera as possible.

Where will your business be in the next 5 years?
I hope to be focusing primarily on weddings and engagements. That's where I'm the happiest. I hope to do a few destination weddings here and there as well.
